Monorail cars

 Monorail is a railway that has only one rail. Monorail cars run along rail above or bellow it. They can be powered by electric motors, gas turbines or diesel engines. As the wheels are of rubber there is lass noise. these trains are faster and cheaper to operate and maintain.

Sri Lanka home is rich mixture of people. They are the Sinhalese, Tamils, the Muslims, the Burghers and a number of other small groups of people. They practice different religions like Buddhism, Hindus, Christianity and Islam. They have their different custom and festivals.                                           The Sri Lankan also speak a variety of languages. Can you say what these languages are? Find a languages which is not spoken by people in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka is situated close to the equator. Therefore it has a hot, wet climate. The costal parts of Sri Lanka are flat. Paddy is the main crop grown in these parts.                                                                                                                      The central parts of Sir Lanka are hilly. It is cool in the hiil country. Tea is mainly grown there. Vegetables, too, grow well in the hill country.                                                                            Coconut, Rubber and tea are three of the main crops of Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is our country. It’s a beautiful island in the Indian Ocean. Some times it is called ‘‘The Pearl of the Indian Ocean’’. The capital of Sri Lanka Sri Jayawardhanapura kotte. Colombo is its Business centre. Sri Lanka has a Population of more than eighteen million people.                                                                    In ancient times Sri Lanka was      known by many different names. The Greek travelers called    it Taparobana and the Arabs called it Serendib.

The ancient inhabitants of Sri Lanka were called ‘Veddhas’. They lived in caves in the forest. They did not farm but lived by hunting animals and collecting   fruit and honey from the forest. They lived small groups. They had their own customs and traditions. They selected the oldest member of the community as their chief. All the others respected and obeyed him.  

Yala national park

Yala national park is in the south of Sri Lanka. Many visitors, both foreign and local, come there every year to see animals living freely life in the wild.

Radio

   Guglielmo Marconi invented the radio in 1901.He send his first message             across the Atlantic Ocean from Cornwall in England to Newfoundland in Canada.

Airplane
